Earth Day

April 22, 2008 Happy Birthday John Christopher! Sophie's "good ton"

Yes, Mother Earth, Tierra Madre, how incredibly precious you are to me, to all of us, everyone, everywhere, then, here, now, until time wears out. Humanity and the world starving for respect.
So sorrowfully and soulfully Marvin Gay sums-up the delicate nature of our environment in The Ecology Song, also referred to as Mercy, Mercy Me. Amazingly this 1970's anthem is as timelss and significant today as it was over 30 years ago.

Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology Song)
Woo ah, mercy mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the north and south and east
Woo mercy, mercy me, mercy father
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas, fish full of mercury
Ah oh mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Radiation under ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Oh, na na...
My sweet Lord... No
My Lord... My sweet Lord

Tax day, Schmax day

Oh those federallies who like to tell us what's what. Taxes and tax collecters have been around since antiquity. Too bad respect and good manners isn't enforced as much as amassing money is.
What if teachers and other professionals like nurses and other caregivers of the sick, old and dying were much more appropriately compensated for their efforts, dedication and committment and the military had to hold bake sales and fund drives to make bombs?

Our Lady of Guadalupe

~ You know those images, thoughts, hopes and dreams that conjure up a sense of peace and calm especially amid a storm? You know an icon, symbol, sound, site that one takes comfort in, is reassured by and at peace with? For me the very sight of an artists rendering in any medium of Nuestra SeƱora de Guadalupe can do all that.

For as long as I can remember my Mother has always been very devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe which is no doubt why I feel such a connection as well, to Mary the Mother of God, heavenly intercessor, endearing, strong and humble, gentle and magnificant. The patron saint of The Americas, the poor, the proud, the weak and wordly have all reflected and adored the women who appeared in Mexico to unassuming children generations ago, bearing good news, a message of hope for all believers of the power and Grace of God. Miracles have been witnessed, many prayers answered and attributed to the sacred beauty and majesty found by the faithful and the followers of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The Queen of Heaven lives, such an awesome image of peace and pure love for all who seek refuge from a world full of doubt and fear and I am grateful for her sacred presence in this fleeting life ~

March into April

Who, when, where, why, how, what events and experiences have transpired this March 2008 to let me be a blessing, blessed, better? What lies ahead in April? Point me in the direction I need to go, guide me, show me the way ~ Hold on tight, take a deep breath and go for it with gusto and guts... so to walk, talk, swim, ride, write, work and play with purpose, into the unknown and known.

Live up to the day to day challenges as well as the minute to minute moments of uncertainty during the course of my day and night... positive, real, fearless and forge-on with purpose blazing trails including an attitude of extreme graititude for those who have blazed trails long before me.

A new month approaches with new opportunites, lessons to learn and memories to make... so much life to live. I say; bring it on, toss it up in the air and see where I land.

GRACE

Happy Easter! "Oh Happy Day!"

GRACE. That word and the meaning of it has been popping up quite a bit lately in my little corner of the world. It's the kind of word that makes one pause and reflect. How do you explain the meaning of GRACE? How do you pray and hope for peace and happiness for everyone, everywhere?

One way of describing Grace is to say it is everything good in the world, in the heavens and beyond. The awesome power, peace and perfection found in God's glory renders Grace and goodness, comfort and satisfaction. The Holy Spirit flies in and out and about constantly pursuing excellence, exuberance, extraordinary experiences. Sometimes subtle whispers of wonder, often fantastic tripping of the light so fantastic. Sensational and Serendipitously ~ soft sweet moments, exhilarating, intoxicating to the soul in such a way that ignites the fading fire within. The alchemy from the flicker, a dim hint of light bursts it's magnificent flame of spellbinding beautiful bright light, shimmery, shiny, sparkly, opaque and translucent, iridescent all at once.
As simple as Grace is, is just as marvelous, magical, life changing and reassuring to understand we have access to this phenomenon then, now and forever. Freed by the light of God's glory, goodness and strength I say it again and again.
Not sure where I saw or heard this but it sure did catch my attention:
Jesus wept, Voltaire smiled. From that devine tear and from that human smile is derived the GRACE of present civilizations. ~ The word is the verb and the verb is God ~

Perspective

I believe it was Victor Hugo who said something like;

Where the telescope ends the microscope begins and who is to say which has the grander view~

I love that question.

Fudgecicles, Milknickles, Comic Books & Growing Pains of Life and Death

Sometimes on hot summer afternoons we'd collect all of our pennies, dimes, nickles, quarters, fifty-cent pieces and occasional dollars...round up our list of drinks and snacks in hot pursuit of Mr and Mrs Bakers candy store down the street, NE corner of Pacific and Walter, nestled at the bottom of the hill, just below the circular catwalk overpass on the Pan American freeway and that oldest brother Gary jumped on to make it shake and scare us.

The snacks and cold drinks included ice cold Grape, Strawberry or Cream Nehi soda, RC Cola, ice cold Coca Cola, Squirt and Canada Dry, the very cool ice cream freezer in the back of the store with the shiny steal doors that laid flat and wildly fun to open and close and home to those great fudgecicles, milknickles, popcicles, push-ups and ice cream sandwiches...just heaven on a hot and sweaty summer day.

The wooden floor smelled rustic and oily, and squeeked when you walked in through the screen door, and the big glass candy counter drew you in like a magnet, well stocked with the best candy in the world. Penny candy, hershey's chocolate kisses/two for a pennny, licorice, jaw breakers, candy bars for a nickle, wax candy and great "Winners" suckers where one could win a free sucker if you got a strip of white paper in the back that said "Winner" on it. On the glass counter top a box full of fluffy glazed-doughnuts on display filled the air with the mouth watering scent of fresh baked goods begging to be bought and eaten on site. The Comic books? Those always seemed to find their way into our hands, providing hours of giggles and grins as The Family Circle, Beetle Baily, Archie, Veronica, Casper, Huckleberry Hound or Alvin and The Chipmonks got in and out of scrapes.

"Where's Boob"? Mr or Mrs Baker inquired if I walked in without Mark and "Where's Sissy?" if Mark went to the store without me. So simple, such a sweet memory.

It's hard to think of the way two old peoples' lives were taken, robbed and killed over a few bucks in their cash box. Mrs Baker armed with only a broom, fighting for her life.
Christmas Eve 1968, a neighborhood kid comes knocking on our door, crying hysterically to tell us what had happenend. It was a shock, reality hit us hard, that Christmas was overshadowed with sadness, It was time to move out of the old neighborhood. Mom knew the simpler times of our lives were fading, people were changing and a new era of life and the unknown approached on the horizon.
